Personal Experience

Nicolas is an Industrial Engineer from Universidad Católica (Chile), and MBA of INSEAD (France).

Prior to founding Star Energy Partners, he founded Smart Energy Group (2018), a consulting firm specialized in the renewable energy sector.

Prior to founding Smart Energy Group, Nicolas served as Country Manager of Pattern Energy Chile (2016-2018) where he led the construction and operation of 220 MW of solar and wind assets and the development of a pipeline of 500 MW of wind and solar projects in both Chile and Argentina.

During this period, he also served as Director and Vice-President of ACERA, the Chilean National Association of Renewable Energy Generation and Storage.

Previously (2007 – 2016) he exercised several senior management positions at Antofagasta Minerals (AMSA), one of the leading mining companies in Chile.

He was responsible for securing the procurement of more than 3,000 GWh/y of energy demand through the negotiation of several long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

 He was also responsible for the creation and management of a portfolio of energy investments representing more than 700 USD million of AMSA direct equity investment in a wide array of technologies, including solar, wind, coal, hydro and geothermal. 

During this period, he also served as the Vice-President of the Energy Commission of the Consejo Minero, the most important association that groups the mining companies in Chile. 

Previously (1997-2007) he exercised several positions in ENAP, the Chilean state-owned oil & gas company in which he spent his last 3 years as General Manager of SIPETROL, a company in charge of the development and operation of oil & gas fields in Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia & Egypt with more than 500 employees worldwide.
